Why I photograph funeral and memorial services:
When my parents passed away, my sisters and I worked very hard to ensure that their funerals were uplifting. Even though we were incredibly sad, the funerals were truly a celebration of their wonderful lives. Because I am a photographer, I thought I could take my own pictures, but ultimately was too busy talking with people or handling other matters. In hindsight, I wish we had hired someone who could have photographed the gorgeous flowers, food, centerpieces, memory tables, and the funeral service itself because my sisters and I spoke, and the grandchildren sang a song about how families can be together forever. Most importantly, our friends and relatives were all together, and I wanted pictures of those who came to show their love and support for us.
I didn’t get the photos that I wanted, so this is the service I now provide to others.
